On this subject I request that you will inform Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies that subject to my Representation, any arrangement which Mr Rennie may make with the view of establishing his Claim on the satisfaction of the Lords of the Treasury, Lord John Russell, as I do not see at present any sufficient reason for making Mr Rennie's Case an exception to the Rule applicable to the Colonial Auditor, Surveyor General, Attorney who do not receive, while they are absent from the Colony, any portion of the Allowances granted by the Foreign Office for services rendered to this Department, such Allowances being considered payable for work actually done, and therefore only payable to the person by whom
